Exploring the City

Messed up my sleeping pattern completely on the second night by staying up until 7 in the morning with some Swedish people I met. I slept until 6.30pm wasting the day completely! I then couldn’t get to sleep at night because I’d caught so many z’s in the day.

Today was constructive though, I visited the Grand Palace where the Emerald Buddha is kept, which is the holiest site in the country. Thai pilgrims come here in their thousands every day to pray and leave offerings. After that I trotted just down the road to Wat Pho to see the colossal Reclining Buddha, a 45-metre-long statue dipicting the Buddha entering Nirvana. From there I walked to the pier and took a boat up the Chao Phraya river to the district of Banglamphu where my guest house is. The journey was 9B (about 13p.)

I changed guest house this morning for the next two nights, it’s simply called ‘Top’, and I’m also sharing the bathroom here, although not with any people, rather a lizard I’ve decided to call Simon. I keep forgetting about him and he startles me every time I go in there.

Tonight I’m meeting up with the Swedes again, although this time I hope to be back before sunrise…

thats pretty cool that you’ve got a lizrd living with you. What does he do all day in the bathroom? Check himself out in the mirror? Or maybe he waits from people to go in so he can go “BOO” at them with his fork-like tongue. I bet he sniggers to himself when you leave!

Do he use you ‘products?’.

He doesn’t do anything, Guy, he just sort of, looks about.

I bet you’ve got a story about a Swede or two Seamus!
