I was sat on the porch of my wooden hut delving into a new book. I’d just cracked open another bottle of Chang when my phone rang, it was one of the Swedish girls I met in Bangkok.
‘Hey, it’s Natalie. Where abouts are you now?’
‘I’m about 200km east of Bangkok, it’s an island called Ko Samet’
‘No shit! That’s where we are. Where abouts are you staying?’
‘The Naga Bungalows, on the second beach from the pier’
‘See you in five minutes.’
And so I went out in search of a decent beach bar with those two and three other Swedish lads who were all sound-as-a-pound, and two girls from London, Sophie and Sophie, tagged along too. Got pretty drunk and found a dancefloor to stumble around on. There was a Thai guy dancing near us and I tried to shake his hand but he wasn’t having any of it which I thought was a bit weird. A little later I went outside and one of the Swedish guys had blood trickling down his face, he told me that Thai old boy had hit him, for no reason apparently. So the next thing we’re all (minus the two Sophies) in the back of this wagon heading towards the only doctor on the island. We knocked him up out of bed and he saw to the Swede as the rest of us waited outside. I was hammered by this point and half remember finding (miraculously) my way home.
Today I chilled out on the gorgeous beach and went diving in the waves. I don’t know what I’ll do tonight yet, I’ve got to be up early in the morning to get back to Bangkok for my Thursday morning flight down to Phuket. I highly recommend Ko Samet!
