Bondi and Darling Harbour

I’ve had a fairly productive couple of days. Saturday we visited Sydney Aquarium, saw some sharks and huge manta rays and that, and then embarked on a monster trek around the city which included the Royal Botanic Gardens where hundreds of bats were nesting, flying about and generally making a lot of noise.

Saturday night was a blinder, we found a funky club called Chinese Laundry playing some decent tunes so we had a fun-filled evening (and morning) in there. Yesterday me and Steve hopped on a bus to Bondi beach. It’s a mile-long stretch of sand with very surfer-friendly waves, and busies up with Sydney’s hip and trendies every sunny day there is. Spent a few hours in the sun and taking a few pics and videos. There’s one video I took by the seafront and part way through it a lifeguard quad bike zooms past, I thought nothing at the time, but unbeknown to me while I was busy scanning the horizon with the lens there was a sea rescue going on over by the rocks. Some people got stuck in a little inlet and the lifeguard apparently ’surfed’ them out. Would have made more interesting footage had I been on the ball but you can watch it anwyay.

Today has been a bit more chilled out, we went down to Darling Harbour where there’s a nice park, scenery, restaurants and cafes etc beside the harbour. Went to the IMAX cinema and watched Roving Mars, a documentary about the Spirit and Opportunity robots landing on Mars, created by Walt Disney, the 3d effect sucking you into the picture. So that was good, then we went to the park and listened to some mini speakers hooked up to the old MP3 player with a ham, cheese and tomato roll. There’s a pub called Scruffy Murphy’s we’ll be patroning tonight as apparently they show a lot of sport and serve $5 meals.
